Eric Smith is the Professor of Old Testament at Nebraska Christian College in Omaha, Nebraska. He has a PhD from Trinity College, University of Bristol, UK. His publications are numerous in his field of study and include a Job Commentary, Reading Genesis 1-11, and a textbook on the Pentateuch. There are a few more academic writings in the works.
Rare is the PhD in any field who also can speak the language of the practitioner, but this is Eric. "I teach language and Old Testament at NC for those who are going to go out and plant churches, grow churches, and affect their culture," says Smith. "This is not about learning for learning sake. This is about pursuit of the Word, and understanding context so that the local church can be served by the strongest leaders possible. Can the next generation handle the Word? This is what I do."
When not writing or speaking, Eric can be found at home with his wife Becky, and four children in Omaha.
